What We Believe

The Bible Is God's Word

The church that Christ established holds to the Bible as being God's holy and inspired Word.  At Uptown we recognize the Bible as our guide to salvation and source of truth.  We do not look to the traditions or writings of man to determine God's will, or to decide right from wrong. (See 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

The New Testament Is Our Covenant For Today

While we see the Old Testament being written for our learning, at Uptown we teach that upon Christ's death, the New Testament became God's covenant with mankind.  We follow the teachings of the New Testament, allowing the Old Testament to lead us to Christ, to whom the law and the prophets of old had pointed. (See Colossians 2:14, Ephesians 2:14-15, Hebrews 9:11-22).

Baptism Is Essential For Salvation

At Uptown we baptize those who want to become members of the Church of Christ so that their sins may be washed away. We use the early church's strict examples as commissioned by our Lord Jesus Christ. (See Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:38, Acts 8:34-38, Acts 16:14-15, Acts 16:25-34, Romans 6:1-6, and 1 Peter 3:21). Also, with the New Testament as our guide, we find a bevy of references that gives accounts of men and women becoming Christians after the church was established on the day of Pentecost. (See Acts 2)

The Lord's Supper Is To Be Observed By Members Of Christ's Church

Jesus instructed His disciples to take the bread and the fruit of the vine in recognition of His body and blood that was to be shed for the remission of our sins. (See Matthew 26:26-28).  In Acts 20:7, we find the early church observing this memorial upon the first day of the week.  For these reasons the Uptown Church of Christ observes the Lord's Supper every Sunday in remembrance of Christ's death as well as rejoice in His victory over death and over our sins!
